Surely diversify, low mgt fees and long term are great. But depending on the length of the long term, I would also consider which are the sunrise industries in that period.

For first time investors how would you start an investment and know what kind of index funds to purchase? Index Funds in my opinion fills less risky for me since I know I can buy more than one stock in one.
